Inspiration to help meet all of life's challenges Wisdom from a Pastor's Heart is a heartwarming and deeply spiritual book that Christians will turn to again and again for counsel, encouragement, and blessing. Much more than a devotional, Wisdom from a Pastor's Heart can be thought of as a pastor in your pocket that is filled with life-affirming nuggets. It is to be read upon awakening, during a coffee break, or anytime throughout the day when the soul needs to be renewed. This beautiful book, an inspiring gift for loved ones, is a wonderful spiritual companion and, in the years to come, is sure to become a well-thumbed volume for Christians as they travel the road of their spiritual journeys. Wisdom from a Pastor's Heart speaks directly to hearts of twenty-first-century Christians and covers the many aspects of our fast-paced contemporary lives. The book is overflowing with meaningful meditations on discouragement, forgiveness, marriage, and God's love. Each of the topics includes scripture passages, spiritual advice, comforting prayers, and reflections. Wisdom from a Pastor's Heart is drawn from the best of The Minister's Manual, which for the past seventy-five years has been the resource that pastors turn to again and again as a source of insight and inspiration. Douglas Connelly (Flint, MI) has been a pastor for more than twenty-five years. He is the author of several books and Bible study guides including The Bible for Blockheads: A User-Friendly Look at the Good Book and Angels Around Us.
Wisdom from a Pastor's Heart is as simple and straightforward as its title. To assemble this volume, editor Douglas Connelly (author of The Bible for Blockheads) combed the annals of a publication called The Minister's Manual, which has served for more than 75 years as a source of sermon wisdom and anecdotes for Protestant ministers. Wisdom draws from the best of these texts and groups them into 30 subject headings, such as Forgiveness, Marriage, Parenting, Money, Anger, and Joy. In the process of assembling this Bartlett's-style anthology, Connelly was guided by one question: "In what areas of life do we Christians need the guidance of a wise pastor, and what would that pastor say to us?" The result, he says, is a book that will be a "pastor in your pocket" for those seeking spiritual guidance. Christians with a healthy appetite for inspirational aphorisms, such as "The best cure for shaking knees is kneel on them" and "With God, failure is never final," will likely find Wisdom from a Pastor's Heart to be a feast. -Michael Joseph Gross
